The Reading Corner provides hands-on, individualized reading instruction to prepare children to become lifelong readers and learners. Using best practices, The Reading Corner focuses on reading essentials, providing quality instruction in a small group setting.
Preschool-age Children
One program offered at The Reading Corner is geared toward children who are preschool-age and are home schooled.The goal of The Reading Corner is to help prepare children for kindergarten. The curriculum is aligned with the Sunshine State Standards for kindergarten. These are the standards that children need to achieve by the end of kindergarten. A growing body of research is showing that high-quality, pre-kindergarten instruction yields academic benefits for children. It is our goal to lay the foundation for success in school - you'll be amazed at what your child can learn! The Reading Corner focuses on reading and writing essentials, providing quality instruction in a half-day setting.
Home-schooled Children
The Reading Corner also provides an enrichment program for home-schooled children. The program provides research-based instruction. Components of this program include reading comprehension, reading fluency, communication skills, and vocabulary development that children acquire by talking and discussing books. The program also supports the home-schooled environment by providing take-home activities that can be easily adapted and merged with your current curriculum.
Small-group Tutoring
The Reading Corner provides after-school and Saturday tutoring programs. The goal of the tutoring program is to support what your child is learning in school. Your child will be reading books at his/her instructional level and will be working on comprehension strategies, as well as skill-focus lessons to support phonics essentials. Your child will participate in writer's workshop, where he/she will be exposed to all genres of writing, practice different writing crafts, and will learn proper handwriting.
Individualized Instruction
The Reading Corner embraces the individuality of each learner-we believe it is important to meet children where they are at academically, while at the same time having high expectations for their reading success. The Reading Corner builds excellent instruction focusing on what children already know, and can do, and provides knowledge, skills, and dispositions for lifelong learning.
