Where Reading Essentials and a Love for Reading Meet

Biography -- Karen Green

Karen Green
I have been an educator in Hillsborough County for over seven years and have taught first through fourth grade. Most currently, I have been a reading coach for the last three years. My work with teachers includes coaching and modeling best practices in literacy, assessing and working with students, providing classroom management support, and on-site trainings to faculty.

Being involved in the reading coach project, I have also participated in monthly staff development trainings and have been trained on the most up-to-date research-based reading and writing instruction. I have attended over 400 hours of training in the last seven years to further my professional growth. As well as attending trainings, I have been a trainer in Hillsborough County for the last three years, training teachers in all aspects of literacy instruction.

Having small children of my own is what really gave me the passion to start The Reading Corner. As a parent and as an educator, I am amazed at what children can learn if they are provided exposure to developmentally appropriate instruction in a fun and nurturing environment. Watching all four of my children blossom into children that have a hunger for literacy has shown me that it's not about pushing kids, but rather about exposing them to the world of books and reading. Whether it's my five and six year olds dying to get the next book in their latest series, or my two year old pointing to words and "pretend" reading, or my one year old looking at pictures and turning the pages of her favorite board book. My passion for children and reading are at the heart of The Reading Corner.
